This Privacy Policy explains how Ride Hero (“Ride Hero,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use the Ride Hero website, web app, and mobile applications (together, the “Service”). Ride Hero is an on-demand ride service operating in southern Utah. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information. Your name, phone number, email address, and profile photo when you create an account.
- Location information. Precise GPS location from your device so we can set your pickup point, show your trip route, calculate fares and arrival times, and let the driver and rider see each other’s location during an active trip.
- Trip information. Pickup and drop-off addresses, the route, distance, time, fare, selected ride tier, and trip history.
- Payment information. If you pay by card, your payment is processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers. Cash payments are arranged directly with the driver.
- Communications. Messages you send through the in-app chat, and SMS notifications sent to coordinate rides.
- Device and usage information. Basic technical data such as device type, browser, and app activity needed to operate and secure the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the Service — connect riders with the driver, navigate to pickup and drop-off, and calculate fares.
- Show live driver and rider location and accurate arrival times during a trip.
- Send ride status updates and notifications (in-app and by SMS).
- Process payments and keep trip records.
- Maintain safety, prevent fraud and misuse, and provide customer support.
- Improve and troubleshoot the Service.
3. How We Share Information
We share information only as needed to run the Service:
- With your driver / rider. To complete a trip, the rider and the driver can see each other’s first name, rating, location during the trip, and chat messages.
- With service providers. We use trusted third parties to operate the Service, including hosting and database (Supabase), payment processing (Stripe), text messaging (Twilio), and mapping, routing, and address lookup providers. These providers may process your information only to provide services to us.
- For legal reasons. When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Ride Hero, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, sale, or transfer of assets.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Location Information
Location is central to a ride service. We collect precise location while you are using the Service to enable pickup, navigation, live tracking, and fares. A rider’s location is shared with the driver to complete the trip, and the driver’s location is shared with the rider while a trip is active. You can turn off location permission in your device settings, but core features of the Service will not work without it.
5. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data as described below.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Access, update, or correct your account information in the app.
- Request a copy or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.
- Control location and notification permissions through your device settings.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
